How does workers' comp work in Nevada?

The Nevada workers compensation market is much more stable today than it was a decade ago. Nevada operated as a monopolistic state until January 2000. NV is now an NCCI state under the jurisdiction of the National Council on Compensation insurance. NCCI now manages rate filings, issues experience modifiers, collects data, and manages the Nevada State Fund. When Nevada changed in 2000 it had much higher rates and the fund was on the brink of failure. Now Nevada enjoys some of the cheapest rates in the country.

As of 2022, the average workers' comp rates in Nevada are 21 percent cheaper than the rest of the country. Rates are low in Nevada because of the large number of insurance carriers who offer coverage in the state. This competition helps keeps rates low.
